Stephen is a General Practitioner with a special interest in Sports and Musculoskeletal Medicine. His unique combination of clinical, scholarly and advisory roles enables him to deliver evidence-based care informed by frontline clinical practice, academic research, and advanced expertise in the assessment of musculoskeletal injury.

Stephen completed a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Physiology, before earning his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from The University of Melbourne. He undertook his Internship and Residency at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, developing a strong foundation across a broad range of medical and surgical disciplines.

Following his hospital training, Stephen developed extensive expertise in the assessment and management of acute injuries and musculoskeletal conditions. He initially commenced accredited Sports Physician training before later transitioning to General Practice. During this time, he served as Doctor for the Essendon Football Club VFL Men's Program, worked as an Emergency Medicine Medical Officer, assisted in orthopaedic surgery, and provided medical support across elite and community sport. His appointments have included Head Doctor for the Bendigo Pioneers Football Club, trauma first responder for Horse Racing Victoria, and medical support at elite triathlon, road cycling and athletics events, including international travel with the Australian Under-18 National Athletics Team.

Committed to evidence-based medicine, Stephen completed a Master of Applied Science (Research) at La Trobe University in 2021 under the supervision of Professor Michael Kingsley. His research in running biomechanics has resulted in multiple peer-reviewed publications, with broader interests in nutritional epidemiology and cardiovascular health.

In 2021, Stephen transitioned to General Practice, combining his extensive musculoskeletal background with comprehensive whole-person care. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 2023.

Stephen also provides independent medical advice on orthopaedic, neurosurgical and general medical claims within compensable medicine. A longstanding Medical Advisor to the Transport Accident Commission Clinical Panel, he was appointed Senior Medical Advisor in 2026. His work involves the critical appraisal of specialist medical evidence and complex injury claims, further strengthening his expertise in diagnostic reasoning and evidence-based management of musculoskeletal conditions.

Having competed in elite junior soccer before later pursuing long-distance triathlon and road cycling, Stephen understands the physical and psychological demands of high-level sport. Combined with his extensive experience caring for athletes across a wide range of disciplines, this enables him to support patients in returning to sport, optimising performance and maintaining long-term health.

Today, Stephen balances General Practice, Sports GP consulting and senior medical advisory responsibilities. His breadth of experience allows him to combine advanced musculoskeletal expertise with the holistic perspective of a General Practitioner, delivering thorough assessments, clear diagnoses and practical management plans tailored to each patient's goals.
